A close family member advised me to do so, but based on a conversation with the dentist about my medical history, I am afraid that she will cancel the surgery if she knows I use methodone. Nightmares from My Sedation Experience During Dental Implant Surgery

I live in CT. Before I agreed to implant surgery, I told the implant surgeon that I was afraid of dental treatment, and he assured me I would be sedated and fully asleep. Instead, I woke up in the middle of the procedure in pain. When I tried to sit up, they held my arms down and didn’t give me any more pain medication.

When the procedure ended, I immediately noticed that my upper teeth sat too far forward. My lips no longer close comfortably, and I now dribble saliva during the day and all night. The doctor said this was “common,” but no one warned me I might deal with chronic bad breath.

They also had to check an area where something was poking through my gums. They restricted me to soft foods, yet even those get caught inside the implant.

I’m still in pain, and my treatment isn’t finished. Had I understood the discomfort and complications, I would not have agreed to treatment with this dentist. I now have nightmares about being restrained. I wake up with saliva on my face, and the odor on my sheets and pillows embarrasses me. Some days, I feel like running away from all of it. Find a dentist you can trust to do quality work while you’re sedated

Resistance to sedation isn’t rare. The sedation partially worked for you, but it didn’t reach the level needed to keep you asleep, so you woke prematurely. In that situation, I would have increased the dosage. With IV sedation, that takes effect immediately; with oral sedation, the wait can be 30 minutes or more. Their reluctance to give more sedation suggests that the doctor gave you oral sedation.

It’s difficult to perform high-quality work on a patient who feels pain or moves during treatment. You may have shifted your head during treatment, and they may view that as justification for stopping.

However, a deeper level of sedation would have prevented this from happening. With proper planning and enough time, they could have fully sedated you before continuing.

Before your next procedure, you can talk to your implant surgeon about your concerns. If the response isn’t satisfactory, consider consulting one or two implant dentists to discuss your sedation needs and transferring your dental implants case to their practice.

Are My New Crowns Causing My Gums to Peel and Bleed?

I got six crowns on my upper front teeth in 2020. Within the past 8 months, my gums have been peeling and bleeding between the front two teeth. I wondered if it was a metal allergy, so I searched online and found a forum about dental allergies. One person suggested asking for a certificate of the alloys used in the crowns. I called the dental office, and they emailed me a paper that says the crowns are GC LiSi Impress. The email stated that the crowns are not metal, so they don’t have an alloy certificate. Could I be allergic to CG LiSi Impress? My anxiety is increasing. I’m unsure if I can take a series of dental appointments to get new crowns. Thank you. Dahlia

Based on your description, we assume you are referring to GC Initial® LiSi Press crowns. If all six crowns are the same material, it’s unlikely that your gums are peeling and bleeding due to an allergic reaction. Otherwise, all six crowns would provoke symptoms. And if you’ve had the crowns for four years but have had symptoms for the last eight months. Something else is probably causing the bleeding.

What Is GC Initial® LiSi Press?

GC Initial® LiSi Press is a high-strength lithium disilicate with beautiful aesthetics for dental restorations, including ceramic crowns. The GC Corporation manufactures products for dentists and dental technicians. Although we have not heard of an allergic reaction to the material, rare cases of a reaction may occur. However, as mentioned earlier, you would experience inflammation around all your dental crowns if you were allergic. A dentist cannot provide an alloy certificate for the crowns because they are metal-free.

What Can Cause Bleeding Between Dental Crowns?

You may experience bleeding between dental crowns if food particles or bacteria from food get trapped between them. Sometimes, a margin with an overhand or something that prevents you from flossing thoroughly is the problem. Dental Bonding or Veneers for My Chipped Lower Incisor?

Should dental bonding work for my chipped lower incisor, or will I need a porcelain veneer? A piece of my lower left front tooth broke last August, and the jagged edge irritates my lip. My dentist put bonding on the tooth twice, but the bonding fell off within a month each time. I haven’t returned to the dentist to redo the bonding because I’m concerned it won’t last. Maybe it’s not the right solution, and I don’t want to waste my time or any more money on sedation since I am so nervous at the dentist. If you have a normal bite, your upper and lower incisor teeth meet when you close your mouth. The impact of the teeth can make it challenging for bonding to stay in place. A dentist must understand occlusion to protect the bonding from stress.

The photos below are of chipped lower central incisors that were initially repaired with composite. The bonding on the tooth to your right (#24) stayed in place but came off the tooth to your left (#25). You can see the composite on the edge of the right-hand tooth if you look closely.

Tooth #25 projects forward more than #24. If it were the same length as the other incisors, it would hit the upper incisors before all other teeth when the patient closes his mouth. Dr. Bell restored the teeth with porcelain. He shaved tooth #25 to be even with #24. The lower and upper incisors meet simultaneously, reducing stress on teeth and preventing dental work from loosening or breaking.

Should I Feel Pain Two Months After Getting Crowns and Veneers?

In early October, I received 3 lower left crowns and eight veneers on my upper teeth. I have severe pain in my lower jaw. My gums don’t hurt. I have jaw pain. One lower tooth hurts so badly that I can’t eat soft bread. My dentist told me to keep taking ibuprofen because I had a lot of dental work done in a few days. He said I might need a root canal for the tooth that hurts. I think I’m taking too much ibuprofen, although the pain is so intense. It doesn’t help that I am starting to grind my teeth at night because of the stress and pain. Should I still be in pain after two months? I’m afraid that I might lose my teeth and need implants. My Bite Is Still Off After My Dentist Ground Down My Crowns

My bite has been off since I got eight zirconia crowns last December. My dentist has tried to correct my bite every month since that time. I think he did some grinding on all ten crowns. I feel so much pressure from the grinding that it has made me anxious. In March the dentist had to stop the adjustment and reschedule me for a date when I could take sedation. Last month I broke out in hives on my face and inside my lips and gums. It’s probably the anxiety. Will I have any zirconia left in the crowns, and is it the zirconia giving me hives now? Having zirconia crowns ground down to correct your occlusion can be uncomfortable because zirconia is a high-strength material. It is unfortunate that your bite is still off. If your dentist has tried to adjust your bite since December, it is unlikely that he will be successful with further attempts.

When your bite is off, it can cause jaw muscle spasms, headaches, earaches, neck pain, and other symptoms related to TMJ disorder. It’s time to get a second opinion from a dentist with advanced training in occlusion and bite. Training in how your upper and lower teeth meet and how to achieve a harmonious bite is beyond dental school.

I got my first temporary crown on a Tuesday in late March, and it fell off on a Thursday afternoon. I remember the day because I have a Bible study class every Thursday, and the crown fell off while I was there. The office was closed the next day, which I understood, so I was patient. When I returned to the dental office on Monday, the dentist made another temporary crown that came off the same week. The crown fell off twice again, and the last time, my dentist took another impression of my tooth because the lab said the first one was no good. I am wearing a crown that has not come off, but I felt weird last week while eating. I am afraid that the final crown will come off. Should I ask for another temporary crown and wait three months to see if anything happens before I agree to the final one? I fear it will fall off, and I will swallow and aspirate it into my lungs.
