It’s time for you to smile again.
When you look in the mirror you see the things that have gone wrong.
Tooth decay has eaten away at your teeth.
An injury caused a couple of your teeth to become chipped or broken.
Some of your teeth have fallen out, and now you have a gap in your smile. Well, what you to be your smile.
Honestly, you don’t smile as much as you once did. You’ve become embarrassed to show what’s left of your teeth in public. You wish you could get your old teeth back again.
Our dentist office may not be able to regrow your teeth, but we can revive your smile if you live or near Monroe, LA. Restorative dentistry is one of the many ways that we help patients feel better about themselves at Bayou Dental Group.
What Is Restorative Dentistry?
This is an area of dentistry devoted to restoring the form and function of your teeth.
The procedures used in restorative dentistry have something in common with cosmetic dentistry. Both are intended to improve the appearance of your smile.
The difference is that restorative dentistry is giving something back that you used to have, whereas cosmetic dentistry is making your smile look better than that it did originally.
If you are wondering what is involved in restorative dentistry, that really depends on the patient. It may mean something as simple as filling a cavity, or it could include a full-mouth reconstruction.
It may be more helping to explain some of the different services we offer that could be used individually or in combination with each other to restore your smile.
Examples Of Dental Restoration
We could mention a lot of things, but we will start with smaller procedures and work our way up to the most complicated restorations.
◼︎ Fillings
Tooth decay eats away at the structure of your teeth. If the decay isn’t stopped early, you will end up with a cavity. At one time, that might have meant a metallic amalgam filling to seal your tooth after the decay was removed.
Today, we believe we have a better option for our patients. By using a composite resin, we can give you a filling that seals and protects your tooth and restores the appearance of your tooth at the same time. The tooth-colored fillings blend in with your tooth, making it more difficult to tell which of your teeth had a cavity.
The composite material can be used for dental bonding, too. This can be done to repair teeth with small chips or teeth that have become worn down over time.
◼︎ Dental Crowns
You can repair broken teeth and decayed teeth that can’t be fixed with a filling. In those cases, we recommend a dental crown instead.
And we can do this faster than many dentist offices because we offer CEREC same-day crowns. This means we have an on-site milling machine, so we can make your crown while you wait instead of making you return after a lab is finished making it.
◼︎ Dental Bridges
Dental bridges can be used to replace one or more broken teeth. Traditional bridges are made by combining multiple crowns to fill in the space created by lost and missing teeth. These bridges are bonded to your teeth in a process similar to what we do for dental crowns.
◼︎ Dentures
Losing part of a tooth is bad. Losing a whole tooth or multiple teeth is worse. Losing all your teeth is the worst.
Not only do you lose your smile, but you lose the ability to eat many types of solid food. Dentures can help with that to a degree. With newer dentures, your smile will look natural (as long as your dentures remain in place), and regain a little of your ability to bite and chew your food.
◼︎ Dental Implants
Dental implants were created to replace the root of your missing teeth. This means they can make other dental restorations even better.
A dental implant can support a dental crown to help you replace a single tooth. Implants can support a dental bridge if you are missing multiple teeth.
And dental implants can be used to make dentures more secure and stable than ever before. With implant-secured dentures really can regain close to all of your original bite force, so you don’t have to avoid any food, unless you just don’t want to eat it.
