Hey there Monroe! Today brings another post of the dental health blog from Bayou Dental Group in Monroe, LA. We hoping you’re keeping sane during these hectic holiday months. With Christmas approaching and Thanksgiving being just around the corner, it can be easy to get lost in the chaos of the holiday season. That means that you may even neglect your oral health during this busy time of year.
At Bayou Dental Group, we want all of our patients to have healthy smiles and good oral health. We offer a number of treatments designed to restore the function of your teeth, and procedures designed to make your teeth look beautiful. In our last post, we started a series about how some of the different procedures offered in our office can help make this Thanksgiving your most enjoyable one ever.
In the first post, we talked about how dental implants can restore missing teeth and ensure the health of your jawbone; that means turkey and honey ham can be back on the menu for Thanksgiving! Later on in this series, we’re going to discuss how dental restorations such as dental crowns can stop your toothache dead in it’s tracks and prevent it from ruining your holiday memories. We’ll also discuss how professional teeth whitening can help give you the confidence you need to show off a big toothy grin in all of your holiday photos.
But today we want to talk about something a little different. All of our dental treatments are wonderful at the Bayou Dental Group in Monroe, LA, but they are only useful if you come into our office. Many patients avoid dental work, not just because of their busy schedules, but also because they are nervous or anxious about their appointment. Dental phobias afflict millions of people in our great country.
About a fifth of the United States only visits the dentist in an emergency situation. That’s alarming enough, but even more distressing is that about half the general population avoids visiting the dentist in general our of fear or anxiety. This can be incredibly harmful for their oral health. If treated quickly, a small problem like a cavity is easily correctable. But cavities can grow larger and more severe over time. Although you may only need a minor filling today, you may need a root canal next month, or in a few months you may need to have the tooth removed. That’s not a positive trend.
But at the Bayou Dental Group in Monroe, LA, we want all our patients to feel relaxed. We want our office to be a comfortable and modern facility where they can forget about their holiday troubles for a moment, and receive the dental work they need and deserve.
We are specially trained to help our patients feel and home and relaxed. We are happy to answer any questions you have about your procedure in advance, and we can even explain every step of your treatment to you. We also offer a cozy environment, we won’t lecture you if it’s been a while since you visited the dentist. We’re just happy that you’re here now.
In order to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible we offer sedation dentistry. Sedation density is intended for patients or nervous or anxious about visiting our office. We prefer the oral sedation method, because it is safe and effective. If you are fearful, we can prescribe you a special medication to take before your procedure. Generally, we use an anti-anxiety medication such as Halcion or Restoril which you simply take a few minutes before your treatment begins.
With oral sedation you’ll feel calm and perhaps a bit sleepy during your procedure. However, you will actually be in a conscious state during your procedure; you can respond to instructions from your dentist as needed and ask questions about your treatment. Oral sedation requires no painful needles; just take the pill and relax. We offer oral sedation for every treatment we offer, and find it to be especially useful for longer treatments.
